Administration Delays Employer Mandate for Mid-Size Businesses

The Obama Administration announced on February 10, 2014, that it will delay enforcement of the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate for businesses employing between 50 and 99 employees. For these “mid-size” businesses, the employer mandate will not be implemented and enforced until 2016. In a further concession, the Obama Administration lowered its standards for businesses with over 100 employees, requiring insurance coverage to be provided for only 70% of such businesses’ full-time employees instead of the previously required 95%. The higher threshold will begin in 2016.
